Hodgepodge #934

Mike G scored Kimmie and myself tix to the LA production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at the Wadsworth Theater. It is a most excellent show, but the run is ending soon, I think.

I participated in one spelling bee as a child. Within several minutes of the start of competition, I was eliminated when I failed to correctly spell the word “maybe”. I was maybe in 4th or 5th grade, I don’t remember, but definitely at an age where I should have easily been able to spell the word “maybe”. Technically embarrassing I guess, now that I think about it, but I do remember really not giving a shit. It was a fucking spelling bee.

Rickmond scored me free tix to the K1-Dynamite! MMA fight at the LA Colosseum last weekend. There were two Korean guys fighting on the card. One of them, Yoon Dong Sik, won in what was possibly the best fight of the night. The other lost so badly that it made me ashamed to be Korean.

Every culture seems to pride itself on being tough. In MMA, Brazillians and Russians are known for being tough. In the military world, the Israeli forces are known for being tough. I remember my dad telling me stories about when he was a kid in Seoul, and he’d see bar brawls between the soldiers of the different countries stationed in Korea spill out into the street, and he always said that the British soldiers always came out on top. In his mind, British are the toughest.

But then again, what culture brags about being being fey and weak? All said cultures, I’m sure, also have their fair share of complete pussies in the gen pop. These days I think that any particular culture’s reputation for being tough is based more on its ability to keep its pansies in check than on actually winning fights.

My apartment building has new tenants, and these tenant have brought a new cat.

It is very friendly and, apparently, confident. It will walk into any of our livingrooms at the first opportunity and make itself at home. Don’t know the name for sure, but it has a collar that says “Kitty”.

Oh, and also, he/she is a Kitler:

This the best picture I could manage tonight to show this. Damn cat kept trying to eat the camera. Except during this leisurely moment:

What a great animal. Too bad I’m allergic. Guess I’ll just have to stick with parrot birds.
