Road Trip - Friday

I took a few pictures today (mostly those unsafe, one-handed shots while I was driving), but nothing really came out. I didn’t go to SF today as planned, but instead hung out with Tam all day cause she apparently gets every other Friday off.

By the evening I was in San Fran visiting Conan and Lori, only Lori’s not here, so it’s just Conan and me. I’m closer to Lori. In fact I seem to know Conan primarily through other people, and not really directly, but we have a lot of common interests both artistically (writing, art, film) and technically (Apple computers) so we’ve always had a lot to talk about. He had no plans so we ended up just watching some Netflix.

We started on Akira Kurosawa’s Dreams. Now I love Kurosawa, and I bow down before him like everyone else, but 20 minutes into the movie, Conan declares, “This movie is the luxury of an old filmmaker” and he turns the movie off because it is putting him to sleep. Dreams is an avant-garde, borderline student film experimental. Maybe some day I’ll watch the rest of it. Instead we watch The Cooler, starring William H. Macy. Very cool premise. Okay movie. That’s about it.

Of the growing number of married couples that I know, two that stick out in my mind are my friends Matt and Kate, and Conan and Lori. I won’t list the qualities of their relationships, but when I get married, I want to have relationships like theirs’. These are couples that make each other better people. I can’t really say it any more succinctly than that.

Since Lori had a work conference for basically the entire duration of my vacation, I had Conan log me onto her computer so I could leave a reminder of my visit.

This is the new desktop on her 15″ iMac:

That’ll be a nice surprise next time she checks her email.

Vacation’s almost over. Not sure what I’m doing tomorrow, but I’ll figure it out.
