When it Rains…

…it pours.

So yeah, it’s literally been raining a lot lately, but the title of this post goes more along metaphorical lines.

I just started rehearsals for “Proof”. First of all, it’s a bit strange being in something I didn’t produce myself. The business of acting is generally out of your control. You can try as hard as you want and in the end, it’s all up to someone else. Someone else casts you. Someone else produces. Etc.

That’s what I like about Propergander. That’s why even working performers like Sami and Eddie like Propergander. It’s a chance for us to have control over our own work and product. We don’t fight for the same piece of pie that everyone else is. We bake our own pie.

But still it’s nice and very affirming to land a part in a “larger” project. It’s nice to know that I don’t produce my own stuff simply because I’m not good enough to make it elsewhere.

That and the fact that I love the play. “Hal” is such a fun character.

We had our first meeting and read through on Monday. I was a bit nervous cause I’ve never had a lead in a full Equity production. I never did end up pursuing an MFA, and I’ve always had an insecurity complex about that. I’ve always dwelt on all the training that I’ve missed out on. Everyone else in the cast is a full Equity member and has gotten their MFA. But five minutes into the read-through I felt much much better. Five minutes into the reading, I knew that I could hang with these guys. Suddenly I had a point of reference and I knew I deserved to be here.

I might also be getting my SAG card pretty soon from an indie film. First equity play and my goddam SAG card. When it rains, it pours. It’s gonna be weird when shit inevitably slows down.
